APEC (Art Producing Economic Community) is an artist-run studio complex, operating on a not for profit basis, currently providing space for 18 non-commercial artists. The studios were set up in 2003 to provide secure, affordable workspace specifically for fine artists – those whose practices are the most financially vulnerable – in an area of the country where suitable premises are scarce and becoming increasingly expensive.
In this section you can find a variety of workspaces available around the city. They range from small artist studios to exhibition and performance spaces.
If you have a workspace available to let, please email email@example.com

Brighton & Hove City Council has teamed up with ‘We Are Pop Up’ on a new initiative to provide year-round pop-up shop opportunities to creative brands and businesses. This initiative is part of the ReCreate project, an EU Interreg 4a cross-border collaborative programme between the UK and France. The scheme will facilitate new and long-lasting connections between local, forward-thinking creative entrepreneurs and the landlords of tomorrow.
‘Pop-up’ is of the moment. It is inspiring a new generation of creatives, artists, chefs, designers, event producers and retailers of all kinds. It is changing the way we think about commercial space and opening up a world of new possibilities for the high-street. Property portfolios are growing more dynamic by the day and spaces are being managed in days and weeks, not months. In many ways, pop-up may just be another term for 'entrepreneurialism,' and illustrates that consumers, brands and property professionals are hungry for a more dynamic sense of what a 'shop' can be..
FOR CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURS
Brighton & Hove City Council is inviting creative entrepreneurs the opportunity to get involved and to pitch new pop up ideas:
Through this project you could
1) Test-trade a new concept or line of products (Start ups can test their new product, build the market and attract partnership and support. Existing businesses can test a new market or develop lines that respond to seasonal opportunities or the needs of specific communities)
2) Reach new audiences and markets. Cultural or community initiatives and projects will be able to have a literal ‘shop-window’ to engage with communities. For example: exhibition space, workshop activity and information and advice services.
3) Take a thriving online businesses offline for the first time (meet customers face-to-face, hear feedback directly, see how people engage with their ideas and goods in real-time)
4) Trial a short-term shop in a new location (develop a wider customer-base, target new markets, expand a demographic)
All of this will now be possible without the risks associated with long-term leases or the exhausting hunt for viable premises. With the help of We Are Pop Up, Brighton & Hove City Council offers a community of support, knowledge and services dedicated to the particulars of setting up a business on a short-term basis.
FOR COMMERCIAL PROPERTY
Brighton & Hove landlords, agents and managers of commercial property will gain access to a powerful tool set to help them manage tenants and their property(ies) on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They will have new opportunities to:
1) Refresh their properties (inviting fresh businesses and their communities to see the property in a new way)
2) Turn their location into a destination (every new shop is an opportunity to promote a space as-a-destination with launch events and ongoing promotions)
3) Curate a unique set of retailers to help stimulate footfall (facilitate variety and try a number of projects to see which are the most successful for the location, make the space simply more interesting)
In the past, facilitating relationships to a range and depth of businesses ready to take space tomorrow would require a dedicated creative agency and/or a powerful consultancy. With the support of We Are Pop Up's online platform, anyone letting space in Brighton are mere clicks away from seeing some of today's leading creative talent ready to pop-up.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Starting now, Brighton & Hove City Council and We Are Pop Up will be facilitating new and exciting connections for space and projects. Anyone thinking about running a pop-up can sign up at wearepopup.com today to get started. Businesses can request space, and anyone with available pop-up space can find great potential tenants.
